The stars aligned and the skies cleared for the Michael Hoefflin Foundation’s first annual Pediatric Cancer Challenge Walk, held on Saturday, March 19, at College of the Canyons. With over 700 registered participants, the inaugural event was a remarkable success according to Kevin Holmes, President of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, who added, “This is the kind of family-focused event that really represents what our organization is all about.” Walkers enjoyed a choice of three courses with varying levels of difficulty, as well as food, drink, music and kids activities. Families aided by the Michael Hoefflin Foundation were present, too, showing their support for the organization that has helped them cope with the difficulties of pediatric cancer. “We’re thrilled with the turnout, and are so grateful for the amazing support we’ve received from everyone, including our Title Sponsor, Boston Scientific,” said Ed Lin, Interim Executive Director.”
Michael Onuscheck, the Event Chairman, addressed the crowd and brought tears with an emotional accounting of how he was impacted as a boy by the loss of his brother to cancer. “This is why I support the Michael Hoefflin Foundation, because I’ve been there, and I’ve seen how families are affected,” he said, adding, “We can do something about it — you are doing something about it by being here.”
The Michael Hoeffin Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public non-profit that provides support to children with cancer and their families. For more information, call 661-250-4100 or visit www.mhf.org.
