A convoy of pink fire trucks visited Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, May 10, to show support for women affected by cancer and to help raise funds for the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center’s patient assistance fund.
In addition to writing messages of hope on the pink fire trucks, attendees had the opportunity to purchase cupcakes, gift baskets, jewelry, t-shirts and other items, resulting in more than $700 raised to support the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center’s patient assistance fund, which covers the cost of mammograms for the uninsured and underinsured.
The Pink Heals Tour, which began four years ago, started with $3,000 and an anonymous donor who helped Dave Graybill buy his first fire truck.  “The Guardians of the Ribbon” are firefighters, police officers and community leaders from around the country dedicated to the fight against all types of cancer affecting women.  Since 2007 their pink fire trucks have traveled around the country encouraging communities, and particularly men, to support women’s health, promote cancer awareness and honor cancer victims and their families.
The Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center has been designated by the American College of Radiology as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence.  For more information or to schedule breast imaging services, please call 661-253-8822.
