The month marks the 10-year anniversary of Comfort Keepers In-Home Care keeping seniors safe in their own home in the Santa Clarita Valley.  We feel blessed to have had the opportunity to assist thousands of families in caring for an aging loved one, and allowing our clients to remain safely in their own home.  As the age wave has come about, adult children in the “Sandwich Generation” struggle in caring for their own children and families, in addition to caring for their aging parents.
We will be celebrating with an event on June 16 with Re-Grand Opening festivities with the Chamber of Commerce at our new Comfort Keepers building located at 23900 Lyons Avenue.  It will also act as the grand opening and ribbon cutting for our new Caregiver’s Skills Lab.  Not only does our new skills lab provide excellent hands-on training for our own Comfort Keepers Caregivers, but we are offering it, free of charge, to the community for anyone who may not be ready to hire a caregiver as yet, but are faced with the task of being a family caregiver to a loved one recently released from the hospital as a result of an acute experience, or is merely faced with this need as one ages in their own place.  You can acquire hands on experience with an occupied bed change, stand-by assist with the use of a Walker and/or Gait Belt, to the use of a mechanical lift.  Also the execution of a proper and safe transfer either from a bed to a wheel chair, or onto and off of the commode, or into and out of the bath/shower without causing injury to the caregiver or loved one.  These are tasks that are sometimes thrust upon the family caregiver with little or no warning upon discharge of a family member who has broken a hip, or suffered a stroke, with no real training or “How to” manual.  We also have educational materials on Dementia/Alzheimer’s care, personal care, body mechanics, infection control, and much more.  If you or someone you know could benefit from this type of training, please contact our Care Center at 661-287-4200 to schedule an appointment.
