A taco is a traditional Mexican dish composed of a corn or flour tortilla folded or rolled around a filling.  A taco can be made with a variety of fillings, a local favorite being fish.  The taco predates the arrival of Europeans in Mexico. Indigenous people living in the lake region of the Valley of Mexico ate tacos filled with small fish.  The first “taco bash” in history was documented by none other than Bernal Diaz del Castillo.
People in the coastal areas of Mexico have been eating fish tacos for a long time.  This delicious dish thankfully made it to California.  The first known English-language taco recipe appeared in California cookbooks beginning in 1914.  Fish tacos are the fast food signature dish of San Diego and have been since 1983. They are cheap to buy and fast to make.  Also, you don’t need utensils so in the beach style communities you can walk into a taco shop (swimsuit and all), order a taco and keep strolling along.  You don’t even need to sit down for a meal.  Now that’s the ultimate fast food experience!
In Mexico, the word taco is a generic term like the English word sandwich.  Like a sandwich, the taco can be made with almost any filling and prepared in many different ways.  The fish taco at Chronic Tacos comes with beer battered or grilled mahi mahi.  When served up “Baja Style” it comes with two corn tortillas and a generous portion of fresh mahi mahi, covered with lime, cheese, pico de gallo salsa, and crisp shredded cabbage.  Don’t forget the creamy Baja Sauce which is the secret ingredient that ties the whole taco together for a little taste of taco heaven.
Chronic Tacos will make everyone feel at home.  At the heart of the restaurant is its food, which is made fresh daily and delicious.  Plus you get friendly, efficient service, beer, and one amazing soda machine.  The Coca Cola Freestyle machine offers over 120 flavors of soda you design at the touch of a screen.  Whatever your personal preferences are on the “filling” in a taco, if you like Mexican food, especially delicious and for a good price, check out Chronic Tacos.  It offers a full menu with authentic Mexican dishes and the soda machine is fun to play with.
