Below is an excerpt of an email between myself and a potentially new client who asked me how I work:
Sessions are over an hour long but typically less than an hour and a half.  I don’t charge any more for the longer session, it’s just the way I’ve been successful in getting results is leaving enough time to “catch up,” keep it light and casual, and make it more conversational.
When you’re a client of mine, as you’ve already seen, I am accessible to you after hours, on weekends, etc.  I’ve intervened, made house calls (as far as Ventura, one was last minute and once during a family birthday lunch due to a suicide threat.  I not only talked him out of it but he’s been successful ever since).  I become something of a surrogate family member for a while, for those who need me in that role.  I can’t be everywhere all the time, but I try.  I spend my weekends and evenings texting and talking to the kids and families I work with constantly because I truly care for them.
I know money is always an issue and that’s one problem I cannot always solve.  I’m willing to work with people for less under the right circumstances, but they need to try to fit into my schedule.
I don’t take insurance, but many clients get reimbursed and I can help that along.
I’m a private counselor, legal, licensed and authorized, but not part of an insurance group (thank God) or treatment facility.  Because of this I can do things they can’t and I get results others don’t.  Working with me is private, intensely personal and very customized to you.
Kids here know me well and I’m “one of them” in many ways… they all accept me because I don’t try to be something I’m not, I relate to them and I don’t seem like a counselor to them.  That’s not easy, but I manage it.
Please let me know how/when/if you want to proceed.  With some mentoring, your daughter will do fine and avoid a lot of unnecessary trouble in life.  What they need is someone mature to trust and talk to when they won’t do that with their parents, but they do it with me quite easily and I can teach them and you to do it together.
Give me a call and we’ll go from there.
