Comfort Keepers In-Home Care will be teaming with The American Red Cross on Monday, September 12, collecting blood that will remain in Santa Clarita for use by Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.  The Red Cross bus will be in the parking lot of the Comfort Keepers building, at 23900 Lyons Avenue in Newhall, from Noon to 6 p.m.  Walk-ins are welcomed, but appointments are preferred to ensure a spot.  If you are able to donate, please contact the Comfort Keepers office at 661-287-4200 to schedule an appointment.
Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood.  The blood used in an emergency, of course, already needs to be on the shelves and ready before the event occurs, with the most often blood type requested by Hospitals being Type O.  Type O-negative blood (red cells) can be transfused to patients of all blood types, is always in great demand, and often in short supply.  O-negative is also used for newborns needing blood.  Did you know a single car accident victim can require as many as 100 pints of blood?  One of the most common reasons cited by people who don’t give blood is: “Never thought about it.”  Well, please think about it.  One donation can help save the lives of up to three people.  Again, the blood collected is earmarked for use in the Santa Clarita Valley.  So please call 661-287-4200 to schedule your appointment between the hours of Noon and 6 p.m. on Monday, September 12.
