Embracing Patriotism, Community, and Fun in Old Town Newhall
Throughout American history, the values represented by our nation’s flag—courage, strength, purity, resilience, and justice—have been celebrated through backyard barbecues, community parades, fireworks displays, and other festive traditions. The Santa Clarita Valley proudly carries on this legacy, with Old Town Newhall serving as the heart of many local celebrations.
Spanning five charming blocks along Main, Market, Walnut, and Railroad streets, Old Town Newhall offers a unique blend of boutique shopping, inviting restaurants, and memorable community experiences. Since its revitalization began in 1997, the district has evolved into a vibrant destination that seamlessly combines modern amenities with its historic Western heritage.
Rich in local history, Old Town Newhall is home to landmarks and traditions that date back nearly a century. Among its most treasured events is the annual Fourth of July Parade, a longstanding celebration of patriotism and community spirit. First held in 1932, the parade honors the men and women who have served in our armed forces while bringing residents and visitors together to celebrate America’s independence.
Councilmember Bill Miranda has often highlighted the deep-rooted patriotism that defines Santa Clarita and looks forward each year to this beloved tradition. Originally organized by the Newhall-Saugus Kiwanis Club, the parade has since been coordinated by American Legion Post 507 and the Old West Association, ensuring its continued success and significance.
Today, thousands of spectators line the streets of Old Town Newhall to enjoy this grand spectacle, making the Fourth of July Parade a cornerstone of the city’s Independence Day festivities and a cherished tradition for generations of families.
