Man creates from what is. The artist uses his pencil, oil, canvas and the image in his mind. He uses elements, whether concrete or abstract, to create his work of art. In each work of art, the human creator began with elements that “exist.”
God creates from what is not. Hebrews 11:3 says, “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” It’s difficult to fathom, but He made both Mt. Whitney and the Pacific Ocean from absolutely nothing! He didn’t have granite or hydrogen or oxygen to start with… He began with nothing!
My point has to do with the great needs in our lives. Because we create from what is, I think often we approach God in the same way, as if He is only capable of doing for us what we are capable of, just a little bigger.
Look at God’s work in the Bible… Isaac was born from Sarah’s dead womb. The fulfillment of the Old Testament promise came from human impossibility. The virgin birth is the witness that man was entirely incapable of creating a Savior. As much as we try to reach up to God we are utterly unable to touch Him, so God reached down into an impossible situation and created a child who would show us the way to eternal life.
God is still creating from nothing. He continues to breathe hope into the dead situations of our lives. Dead body tissues, dead marriages, dead spiritually, dead pocket books are still being overcome by a living God who delights in creating from nothing.
Take heart today. Though your back may be up against the wall and your situation may seem entirely impossible… it is not to God! He is an “out of nothing” creator! In fact, that is where He does His best work!
God is ready to do impossible things in your life right now – are you?! Invite God to do the impossible in your life and your family.
Invite the Creator into your impossible situations! He makes the impossible, possible!
