Students will have a new place to attend college this fall on Sierra Highway in Canyon Country. The new College of the Canyons campus will soon be ready for incoming and current students to attend classes, study and build life-long friendships. The new campus is part of the original community college and, according to the Founding Dean for the new campus, Dena Maloney, 25 classrooms and labs have already been built. The rooms are in modular buildings that have the same look and feel permanent buildings do, said Maloney. The first permanent building is expected to be ready in 2008. Building another campus is expected to provide students with added convenience. Students will have a plethora of options. For example, if classes are more convenient at one campus, they are allowed to attend there. Funding for the new campus is being provided through Measure M, Measure C and state matching funds. According to the College of the Canyons website, Measure M was expected to enable College of the Canyons to build more classrooms and labs, to update classrooms and infrastructure and to construct new buildings. “Its going to be a wonderful campus,” said Maloney. “It symbolizes the growth of our community.” For more information, visit www.canyons.edu.
