Ready set go, go, go! It is officially holiday time. The warm fall breezes are sweeping right though all of us in Santa Clarita. The smell of the turkey and pumpkin pies are already consuming all of our thoughts. The families all gather to enjoy a wonderful meal on that magical fourth Thursday of November of each year. We always know that we must use “Mom’s” perfect stuffing recipe, cousin Alice always does the potatoes and lumpy gravy, aunt Sue’s cranberry jello, grandma always does her time tradition ambrosia salad, and uncle Mike cuts the turkey with precision each year. All that should leave is the variety of pies that are expected. Wait, stop! Did we stop to think what really makes the celebration complete? That would be the special wines, sparkling wines, and the cocktail that accompanies the day.
Presenting your guest with a perfect and light cocktail upon arrival is the ideal way to make all feel warm and welcomed, not to mention ready to start the holiday celebration.
A wonderful cocktail that can take your guests right through the front door and all through the appetizers would be a cranberry bubbly cocktail. It is a beautiful and festive cocktail that is not only a beautiful addition to any table, but lovely on the palate as well. This is the Roman Poinsettia: in a cocktail shaker with ice, add two ounces of pure cranberry juice, 3/4 ounce of simple syrup, and one ounce of Combier orange liqueur. Shake ingredients, strain into a champagne flute, top off the rest with an italian prosecco (a sparkling Italian wine) then garnish with a frozen cranberry and an orange twist.
With your special meal you may want to have the right selection of wine on hand. There are many thoughts on wines to serve with a Thanksgiving meal. The traditional favorite is the pinot noir varietal, however there are many other choices.
