On Saturday, November 19, Single Mothers Outreach will be highlighting artists and honorees at the Empowering HeArts “Breaking Barriers” reception.  The event will take place at the Dianne G. Van Hook University Center at College of the Canyons at 6 p.m. Enjoy sparkling wine, hors d’ouevres and live music by Grammy nominated R&B singer/songwriter Shanice Wilson.  Shanice is best known for her 90’s hit singles I Love Your Smile and When I Close My Eyes.  The talented artist has also worked with many major recording artists throughout the years.  
This year’s “Breaking Barriers” reception will honor stories of 12 honorees who have been selected by a member of the community or local organizations.  The honorees have been paired up with local artists who will capture their story through photography, watercolor or oil painting, which will be on display at the gala.  A winner (honoree and artist) will be announced on the evening of the event, and a collection of artists’ work will be available in a commemorative book detailing each woman’s story.  
Honorees include Sarah Alethia, Tamara Gurney, Gail Ishimoto, Marlee Lauffer, Debora LeBlanc, Elizabeth Levitt Hirsch, Mitzi Like, Gloria Locke, Barbara Ralsten, Maria Rodriguez, Julie Visner and Jayme Wisdom.  Artists include Joanie Miller, Nancy Eckels, Zony Gordon, Samantha Hines, Michaela Hart-Zerib, Georgette Arison, Maureen Benoit, Phil Althouse, Sandra Correll, Ted Dayton, Laurie Finkelstein and Yoti Telio.

All proceeds will benefit the programs and services of Single Mothers Outreach, helping the organization to continue its mission organized around the four “Pillars of Success:” Assist, Grow, Sustain and Inspire.
