Breaking Barriers

It was an evening of celebration as guests gathered at the 2nd Annual Empowering HeARTS Gala and Art Exhibit on November 19 at the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center. Empowering HeARTS, sponsored by Single Mothers Outreach, presented the creative works of local artists who produced unique and inspiring art based on 12 inspiring and empowering women who have changed the lives of those around them and have broken barriers.  Empowering HeARTS mission-celebrating women, the arts and community by bridging the worlds of social action and artistic expression.  Maureen Benoit was the evening’s Grand Prize winning artist for her photo montage of honoree Mitzi Like of L/B/W Insurance.  Judges included Tom Bravo, Stuart Frolick, and Erin Harkey.  The entire collection of art will be on display at Westfield Valencia Town Center throughout the holiday season beginning on December 4.
