Earlier, this year, Santa Clarita was named as one of the 100 Best Communities in America for Young People by the America’s Promise. Citing Santa Clarita’s Anti-Gang Task Force, Youth Employment Program, Blue Ribbon Task Force and proactive, partnerships benefiting youth, Santa Clarita was one of six communities in California to receive this prestigious designation. I am very proud of the time and talent our City and our community spend for our youth. Kudos to all of you who helped our City achieve this impressive award.
I want to encourage you to attend the AT&T Golf Classic being held at the Valencia Country Club March 12-18. This nationally-renowned golf event, part of the PGA Champions tour, will feature champion golfers right here in our community! In terms of major projects, the City is currently working on constructing the next phase of the Cross Valley Connector Road, which will connect I-5/126 with Copperhill/Rye Canyon Road. This important link will help improve traffic flow in our major work areas in the Valley. We are also well underway with construction on the new 32-acre Todd Longshore Park in Canyon Country. This beautiful, view park will include picnic areas, play areas, trails, a restroom and more. We anticipate opening the park next spring.
If you haven’t purchased tickets for the annual Cowboy Festival (April 25-29), you still have time! The Cowboy Festival weekend at Melody Ranch is an exciting opportunity to walk the streets of a working movie ranch while enjoying live entertainment.
