Everywhere we look lately we see new buildings, business spaces as well as homes, and that’s very good for out city. We also have a few businesses that have been here for a considerable amount of time. For example, did you know that Jewelry World has been in the same spot with the same owners for 22 years?
I find such longevity remarkable and interesting so I had a conversation with their owners, Jack and Ginger Freed, who graciously agreed to let me share their story with you. Their family has been in the jewelry business for four generations. Now that’s some real experience at a trade for you!
Jack and Ginger are also getting ready to celebrate their 51st wedding anniversary this year. They have four lovely daughters and six beautiful granddaughters. Do you see the theme here? Jack is surrounded by women – and he loves it! They are some pretty smart women as well. All of their daughters are university graduates and two of them work in the shop with their parents. Jack is a gentleman who is always smiling and happy. He is always quick to tell a cute joke! No wonder customers often ask for him personally. Ginger has worked in the store since it opened 20 years ago. She stayed home to raise their children before joining Jack when he opened his own store. Ginger has a great knowledge of appropriate special occasion gifts. She is also a very active gardener and belongs to the NewComers Club.
Many of the customers that come to Jewelry World remember coming to the shop with their parents. The Freed’s are well known in Santa Clarita – so well known that people will speak to them when they are out having a meal or shopping. After one such incident at a restaurant, one of their granddaughters said to Jack, “Gee, Grandpa, you’re just like the mayor – everyone knows you.” I would like to wish Ginger, Jack and their family many more years of happiness and good fortune!
