The City of Santa Clarita began partnering with Child Care Resource Center (CCRC) last summer to remind the community that a matter of minutes is all it takes for a child to suffer tragic injury when left alone in or near cars.  The weather is warmer, which means the temperatures inside a car can reach over 100 degrees within 20 minutes.

CCRC’s Matter of Minutes campaign wants to remind you that the inside of a car is a very dangerous place for children.  This unique safety campaign sends the message that a matter of minutes is all it takes for a child to die in a car.  Children can suffer death, heatstroke, abduction, carbon monoxide poisoning, hypothermia and physical injury when left unattended in or around a vehicle.

CCRC launched the Matter of Minutes campaign in Santa Clarita last summer to prevent tragedies like the one that took place a couple of years ago, when two children died in CCRC’s service area as a result of being left alone in a vehicle during hot summer weather. This tragic accident prompted an immediate need for awareness.
CCRC wants parents, child care providers, community members and people everywhere to know that it only takes a minute for a child to be exposed to harm when they are alone with cars, even in your driveway or garage.  CCRC has already partnered with Local Assembly member Cameron Smyth and Antelope Valley Assembly member Sharon Runner to help spread the Matter of Minutes message to the community through public service announcements available online at www.youtube.com and on local television.

If you would like to help bring the Matter of Minutes message to local families, or to know more about the Matter of Minutes safety campaign and how you can help, get connected to CCRC online at www.ccrcla.org or call CCRC at 866-674-KIDS.
