It’s always fascinating to explore the contributions made by people who are just doing their every day work and end up making a major contribution to the world.  In commemoration of the accomplishments of women who have made a significant impact and to celebrate National Women’s History Month, the Valencia Public Library will be putting on three Sunday performances during the month of March.
The first one on Sunday, March 11 will feature the life of Betsy Ross, the women who sewed the American flag.

The story of Ross’ life is one of triumph through incredible adversity. She was disowned by the Quakers and lost her first husband to an explosion at a munitions depot that he was guarding.  Ross’ second husband died in a British prison and her third passed on after a long-term illness.  She had seven daughters, two of whom died in infancy and maintained a business throughout it all.  Did you know her church pew was right next to George Washington’s?  The role of Ross will be performed by Suzan Gallerito, a member of the Knott’s Berry Farm Entertainment and Education Team, Living Legends and Women in Theatre.

The second one on March 18 will reenact the life of Abigail Adams, First Lady, wife of one President and mother of another.  Judith Helton will take on the role of Adams.  She is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement 1996 Performing Artists in Schools award.

For it’s final production, the library will offer Everywoman: Voices of the Sisterhood, a look at the less familiar women in history who carried picket signs and marched for causes in support of the enrichment of the quality of life for Americans.  It will be performed by Sarah Simmons, a former cast member on the T.V. show, General Hospital and a teacher at the Screen Actors Guild Conservatory.

All performances will begin at 2 p.m. and are free to the public.  For further information, call 661-259-8942, www.colapublib.org, 23743 W. Valencia Blvd., Valencia.
