Sushi has become incredibly popular in the United States in recent years. Most people have tried it and for those that haven’t, you may find yourself in a sushi bar very soon. While the initial thoughts of eating raw fish may be unappetizing, sushi is a very healthy food that can be enjoyed by everyone.
Why is sushi healthy?
Nori (seaweed) contains a great source of minerals found in the ocean and the vinegar in the rice acts as an important factor in promoting cell metabolism. People who use vinegar frequently to dress salads, blend with soy sauce, or drink in small amounts have lower percentages of body fat. The Nori used to make many rolls and maki is high in Vitamin A, B-complex, Niacin and Vitamin C. It is also good for digestion.
The rice is low in fat and sodium free while also being a complex carbohydrate which your body needs.
The various types of fish used in sushi are excellent sources of protein and minerals. High content of fish oil in the fish is a main health factor which promotes a healthy cardiovascular system. Many fish also contain high amounts of EPA and DHA omega3 fats and are also high in vitamin E which is a powerful antioxidant.
Sushi should always be made with fresh ingredients and enjoyed with soy sauce, ginger and wasabi. Ginger and wasabi help digestion and helps fight bacteria that may be found in the fish.
Sushiya will soon be offering brown rice for an additional health benefit, ask for it next time you’re in for dinner. We also offer gluten free organic soy sauce.
