With the weather getting warmer every day, there’s no reservation that summer is drawing near.  The summer can be a great time for relaxing and enjoying the outdoor climate with family and friends.  However, it can also be hazardous if you don’t take the proper precautions to be safe.
Your body is working hard every day to maintain a normal temperature balance.  Extreme heat weakens your body and forces it to work harder than normal, which often is the starting place for cause of heat-related illness.  In essence, the heat forces your body to work beyond its limits.  For senior citizens, this can be a dangerous – and even deadly – crisis.
Normally, heat-related illnesses are a direct consequence of extended exposure to the sun.  This may include simple sunburns, heat exhaustion and sometimes even heat stroke.  There are many different ways to combat these illnesses, which a number of, are very simple and easy to do.
Here are some of the easiest ways to stay safe from the heat this summer:
• Keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water and liquids.
• Apply sunscreen when outside for a long period of time.
• Wear a hat to reduce sun contact to the face and neck.
• Limit strenuous activities.
• Take breaks to cool down by resting in a shaded area.
• Wear light clothing.
• Prepare easy and light meals.
• Keep your home at a comfortable temperature.
• Check on family and friends.
