I love those little letters that children write to God. Like Norma age seven wrote: “Dear God, did you mean for the giraffe to look like that or was it an accident?” Joyce (six years) wrote, “Dear God, thanks for the baby brother, but what I asked for was a puppy.” Larry, eight years, wrote, “Dear God, maybe Cain and Able would not kill each other so much if they had their own rooms. It works with my brother.”
Insightful, was the letter written by little Lucy, age six: “Dear God, are you really invisible or is that just a trick?” Have you ever wondered if there is a God, if He is really there? And if He is, why is God so hard to see? We think, if only He would step out on the balcony of heaven and give us a little wave or something. We wonder if He is there what part does He play in this life of trouble and tears?
In a new church wide study called, “God is Closer Than You Think,” Valencia Hills Community Church will investigate the answers to the question of God’s presence and His involvement in our lives. In a six-week message series starting September 16 we will discuss the Biblical precedent of God’s up-close and personal intervention into all of our lives. We will learn the key to finding God and living with the perspective of His desire to be a vital part of our everyday lives. Most of all we will discover God’s great desire. You see the story of the Bible isn’t primarily about the desire of people to be with God; it’s the desire of God to be with people. I invite you to join us on this great quest to find God is closer than you think.
Valencia Hills Community Church meets Sundays at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. in the gymnasium of Valencia High School. For more information, please call 661-775-1885 and visit www.Valenciahills.com.
