The deadline to enter the Citywide Youth Art Exhibit has been extended to March 2 and is open to SCV residents, four to 17 years of age. Works of art will grace the walls of Barnes and Noble Booksellers in Valencia and a community reception will be held Saturday, March 17, (elementary students reception: 5-6 p.m.; Junior/Senior High reception: 7-8 p.m.).
An annual event since 1998, the Citywide Youth Art Exhibit gives young artists the opportunity to display their work for the community and selected works will travel on to an exchange exhibit in Russia. Certificates of award are presented by the City.
Adding to the prestige of the event, works of art submitted by high school students will be judged and one piece will go to the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. as part of the Congressional Youth Art Competition to represent Congressman Buck McKeon.
Jordan Recchia, winner of last year’s competition, will be on hand to speak out about his experience in Washington, DC. Look forward to the St. Patrick’s Day reception, with music provided by recording artist/guitarist, Vince Falzone featuring local young guitarists. Open exhibit is scheduled for March 5 through March 25 and is facilitated at Barnes and Noble Booksellers in Valencia and sponsored by KHTS AM 1220 radio. Forms are available at Barnes and Noble or by contacting SCV-Arts.com.
