So how do you get inspired? Is there a place you go? People you meet? Technique you follow? The answer is whatever works for you, that’s probably a cop out, right?
It’s actually inside you already, you just have to find a way to release it.
Everything you have experienced, or will experience in life, can be an inspiration.
Your mindset is an important element in this. Inspiration is all around us, we just need to open our eyes and see. Some people say they are not inspired, and don’t act, they sit at home waiting for a lightening bolt to strike them with an idea. It’s happened to me, my mind has been cluttered and I didn’t have the freedom to see. Sometimes it could be a simple walk in the park, the mall, coffee shop, library or even… get this, a museum.
I get inspired when my mind is uncluttered, I try to have alone time every day, usually very early in the morning, it is peaceful, no interruptions, lots of time to think.
Where am I as an artist? Where do I want to be? How can I get there?
No, I don’t ask any of those questions. It usually happens for me in the most unusual way. Sitting at a coffee shop I’ll notice a grouping of chairs and the way they form a pattern of shapes… wow… a chair with no one sitting in it. How boring you would say, no how exciting it is that these chairs have a wonderful message about their function and the way they fill space.
I get inspired when I have the opportunity to share an idea with someone that maybe didn’t notice the artistry. As artists, that’s our gift, to see things with different eyes.
So, I guess you can say that I got inspired by a group of chairs at a Starbucks, it sounds silly but that’s the way it works for me.
At The ARTree we try to do just that, inspire and show young minds that inspiration and wonderful things are all around them, it’s in everything they see and feel everyday.
All they have to do is see.
