The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will once again hold its annual Fun in the Sun Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, October 6 at the Jack Bones Equestrian Center in Castaic. It’s a must attend event for all you chili fans as there will be many chili booths, games, vendors, food, a kid zone, live music and more.
Let the chili cooks battle it out for top honors and bragging rights for Hottest Chili, People’s Choice, Judge’s Choice and Grandmaster. There will also be prizes for best-decorated booth, best-spirited and best theme.
Along with delicious chili, there will be a variety of department displays and an Emergency Response Team competition. It will be a day of fun for the entire family, including an expanded Kids’ Zone with bounce and bungee houses, inflatable obstacle courses, a dunk tank, petting zoo and free crafts painting and coloring tents.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has been hosting their cook-off event for over 25 years. It was started by Sheriff Sherman Block and other Chili heads and it has grown with each year.
Five years ago, the Sheriff’s Department joined together with the Santa Clarita Special Olympics to turn this great tradition into a fund-raising event to assist the wonderful children who benefit from this organization.
The Jack Bones Equestrian Center is located at 26983 Tapia Canyon Road in Castaic. Chili cards are only $5 for adults, $3 for children ages seven to 14. The event will run from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and will benefit the Santa Clarita Special Olympics.
