It was dawn, the end of the night shift, and one-by-one the nurses of Providence Holy Cross Medical Center filed into the hospital chapel for a brief ceremony.  They received their Magnet Hospital pins, signifying that the Mission Hills hospital’s 800 nurses rank among the best in the nation.
Providence Holy Cross was redesignated earlier this year as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, an honor that reflects patient care and quality outcomes as well as innovation in improving the art and science of nursing.  Providence Holy Cross is the only Magnet Hospital in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys.

The proof that Providence Holy Cross is dedicated to quality and compassionate care comes not so much from this designation but from the patients.  Here are some of their comments in surveys submitted after discharge:
“Nurses were absolutely fantastic.”
“I love my nurses.”
“All the nurses were exceptional.”
“Great nurses, friendly staff.”
“A hospital stay couldn’t be better.”
Providence Holy Cross, a short drive from Santa Clarita, specializes in maternity, cardiology, neurology, orthopedics and oncology, among other specialties, and is renowned for its emergency and trauma care.  While some Emergency Departments are notorious for long waits, the Holy Cross ER staff is exceptionally efficient.
“I never was in and out of an emergency room so fast,” one patient said in a survey.
Aside from its Magnet status, Providence Holy Cross holds numerous quality awards.  Last year, it was named among the 100 Best Community Hospitals in the nation by the well-respected Becker’s Hospital Review.  Also in 2012, the hospital received 18 awards for excellence, including care for stroke and heart patients, from Healthgrades, a consumer healthcare rating organization.
According to one patient surveyed: “Every service was excellent.”
Another patient summed it up: “The best.”
