Sports have been my life—just ask my family and friends.
I played sports growing up… and as a grown up, I talked sports — I was a television sportscaster for 30 years.
Well, I have always wanted to somehow give back to my community and encourage kids to get involved in sports and that led to Way2Go! Sports—Santa Clarita’s new sports league for boys and girls (ages four to 14).
We play basketball, flag football and tee ball/coach pitch baseball and nothing makes me happier than seeing a smile on a young person’s face after making a basket, scoring a touchdown or hitting that baseball. There’s just something about it that makes this old man feel good – okay, I’m only 53, but I’m still older than most of my Way2Go! Sports parents.
While competition is always a part of the game, fun is the name of the game at Way2Go! Sports. We want all our players to enjoy themselves on the field and on the court and we also want our parents to have a good time.
The legendary coach Vince Lombardi once said, “Winning isn’t everything…it’s the only thing.” Well, that may play in the NFL, but not with Way2Go! Sports… as good sportsmanship is everything in this league. Players, coaches and parents are all urged to show good sportsmanship and at the end of the day, that makes for great sports competition.
Our fall season starts the final weekend in September. We’re playing tee ball (ages four to seven) at Richard Rioux Park in Stevenson Ranch and basketball (ages four to 14) at the Boys and Girls Club in Newhall.
