On June 10, 37 students from SCCS embarked on a six day trip to Washington D.C. for the 8th grade’s annual visit to see and learn about our Nation’s Capitol.
“We learned a lot and were able to experience some of the rich history of our nation! Our D.C. trip really opens our student’s eyes and allows them to gain a deeper understanding of the U.S. government and the democratic system,” said one parent.
Students learned about the many beautiful memorials, the Capitol Building, and Mount Vernon. They spent a day in Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown. A highlight was laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. Four students from SCCS were privileged to participate in this solemn and touching ceremony.
“What an incredible experience the D.C. trip was!” SCCS student Alicia Hurst said, “I left a piece of my heart in D.C.!”
