Throughout the last few months, I personally have become melancholy about my time spent here working at Telly’s Drive-In Castaic, probably more than most of you may have wanted to hear! When you work in Castaic, you will find it’s a collision of old and new. The “Old Castaic” does not want change nor does it want to accept change without kicking and screaming and the “new” just barrels in with no idea of the rich history the “Old” does behold!
When you actually sit and talk to the “Old Castaic” it’s full of history; from the first few businesses and owners to actually become “Castaic” through to the oil miners, restaurants and, families settling here to forget the hustle and bustle of the city. Actually sitting down and talking with the “Old Castaic” is an adventure of itself. Running a diner, you hear the gripes and moans of the “Old Castaic” as life progresses, at first saying to yourself, “You just cannot make some accept change!” but once you sit and actually listen to their story, you start to understand why change is so hard for them to accept! When coming into a community that has been the same for so long…. small town, no big city politics, no crime, no big malls, lots of untouched land, you try to protect your ways, to keep them untouched so that maybe the next generation can enjoy what you have come to know as home.
I want to take this time to personally Thank the “Old Castaic” for sharing all of the wonderful stories and allowing us to become a big part of the Castaic Community. It has meant a lot to be accepted as part of a place with such a rich history as Castaic has. I have personally enjoyed each and every conversation and story and hope to be a part of the bridge between “old” and “new”.
