Last month I wrote about the Santa Clarita Valley Transit Authority’s invitation to participate in their in-house Health Fair for the specific purpose of enlightening the workers to the specific differences between ‘ice cream,’ with its undeniably unhealthy 12 to 16-plus percent in fat, and yogurt; in particular, our Dannon frozen yogurt.
And while my intention this month was to continue to explain the health benefits of our product, something else happened just three days ago that brought my wife Peg, and I, to another unexpected emotional level. An email from Santa Clarita’s own newspaper, The Signal, informing us that Planet Yogurt had just won their Annual Best Of 2013 Award for Best Frozen Yogurt. Coming off the heels after winning élite Magazine’s 2013 Ultimate Frozen Yogurt Award last month, all in all, I’d say it’s been a pretty good month for us here at Planet Yogurt. And we haven’t even been open a year as of this writing. Our customer base…and our customer referral base (word of mouth) has been fantastic and Peg and I are so appreciative that words simply cannot express the depth of our gratitude to everyone who voted in both the élite Magazine and The Signal campaigns.
We believe that our frozen yogurt, made by Dannon, is not only the healthiest ‘froyo’ you can eat, but also the most delicious as well. Untold numbers of our customers agree, coming in time after time telling how they were away on vacation and indulged their froyo-fix, only to return to PY with, essentially, the same comments “we really can taste the difference now.” On a broader scope, regarding health, Elise Fennig, spokesperson for the National Yogurt Association, states “consumers have shifted from ice cream to frozen yogurt.” But in addition, and more along the lines of cautionary advice (which I have pointed out in previous articles) she hastens that to even be called yogurt, it must contain two strains of beneficial bacteria, also known as probiotics: streptococcus thermophilus and lactobacillus bulgaricus, which produce lactase, easing digestion for those who are lactose intolerant. The NYA has created its own seal of approval (LAC Seal), awarded to frozen yogurt with 10 million cultures per gram at the time of manufacturing, a threshold that offers digestive benefits. And our Dannon frozen yogurts exceed that by a wide margin, meeting their rigorous requirements for more potent yogurt—at 100 to 200 million cultures per gram. More to come…
