Wait, hold on. Is it really that time already? Those were my exact thoughts when I was told that my labor would be induced just a few days before my due date. I was torn between the fact that I loved being pregnant and was content that way, but also the fact that I couldn’t wait to meet my little Sophia. I guess I felt happy, yet scared at the same time.
A couple of days before Sophia’s due date, I started feeling pretty anxious and more hyper than usual. I had my blood pressure taken and we found out it was higher than usual. I called my doctor who then urged me to go the hospital for observation. Kris was already running out the door. As for me, though, I tried to take my sweet time. I made sure all my bags were ready and I even made Kris stop at one of our favorite restaurants to eat before I went in. I was very thankful for later, seeing it was my last meal for almost TWO days. Anyway, after trying to delay the hospital as long as I could, I was finally admitted.
Everyone at Henry Mayo Hospital was absolutely wonderful. A huge thank you from my whole family to all the nurses and staff for making my stay so enjoyable. After I was admitted, the doctor proceeded to induce me by giving me Cervadil. That alone would trigger my contractions and within 24 hours Sophia would be born. Then about 12 hours after the Cervadil was given to me, my doctor came in and broke my water! Now that was weird! This is when I would say the contractions came faster and stronger. They hurt so badly.
The long and short of it, approximately 27 hours after being admitted into the hospital I was finally ready to start pushing. At first, I did not think I was going to be able to do it. It’s hard! But with the wonderful support of my husband, my sister, my mother and my nurse Tracy, I was finally able to push her out. I would definitely have to jot this down as the most memorable experience in my life. She was and is sooo perfect! They quickly put her on my stomach and Kris and I stared in utter disbelief at how beautiful and perfect she was. Mind you, we are biased since she is our daughter. I am so in love with our daughter.
I stayed at the hospital for about a day and a half after Sophia was born.
All my family and friends came by to see her. So far she has been an exemplary child. She sleeps really well and is an avid breast feeder. The lactation consultant even said she was a natural at latching on. My new adventure now begins in raising our daughter. I will chronicle her progress every month for the next year. I am so happy that I am speechless, which for me is a rare thing. Ask anyone who knows me.
