Wendy’s of Santa Clarita has a history of giving back to the community. Bridges to Ability, SCV Relay for Life, SCV Food Pantry and dozens of local schools are just some of the non-profit groups that have benefitted from the generosity of Wendy’s and its employees over the years.

This month, Wendy’s is gearing up for the Light the Night Walk at Bridgeport Park, Saturday, October 26 at 5 p.m., benefitting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Lucia Romero, Manager of Wendy’s of Santa Clarita on Lyons Ave has been personally affected by Leukemia.  Both Lucia and her longtime friend, Ashley, were pregnant at the same time.  They enjoyed experiencing motherhood simultaneously, and were shocked and devastated when Ashley’s daughter, Malaya, died suddenly at six months of age, with no signs of anything amiss.  According to Ashley, “It was Acute Leukemia, so we didn’t know she had cancer until the night she died.” Having a seemingly healthy baby and sharing the joys of motherhood with her dear friend, ended on one night.  Because Malaya could not verbalize any pain or discomfort she might have been experiencing, this disease was silent until it was too late.
Lucia has supported her friend in as many ways as possible.  When she discovered that her own employer, Wendy’s, is a Regional Sponsor of the Light the Night walk, she felt compelled to lead the local Wendy’s team.  Her co-workers rallied behind her and will join her at Bridgeport Park.  In addition to having a team walking for this cause, Wendy’s will have its own booth selling food at the event and giving an additional donation back to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Ashley writes, “As for my daughter, I know she is in a better place looking down smiling upon all the donations that go to cancer patients.  Malaya and I truly thank everyone who participates.”
During the month of October, with as little as a one-dollar donation, customers will be instantly rewarded with a free Junior Frosty.  They will also receive a coupon for a free small fry with no purchase necessary on their next visit.
Wendy’s has four locations in the SCV serving delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  For more information, and to get involved with the Light the Night walk, please visit www.wendysofsantaclarita.com, email info@wendysofsantaclarita.com or call 818-516-9810.
