When it rains it pours. Over the past few years I’m getting to know Louis Armstrong Airport in New Orleans pretty well. I flew there twice in 2011 for a total of three weeks shooting G.I. JOE: Retaliation. And, careers being as unpredictable as they are, on Peg’s birthday (Sunday, September 29) I was on a 6 a.m. flight back here again to New Orleans to film the upcoming CBS-produced television series Star-Crossed.
I was there for the week and flew home to Los Angeles on October 4, but returned back here to New Orleans on the ninth strictly to meet and read for a film producer (in fact, the producer of Crazy Heart, which won Jeff Bridges both a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award for Best Actor in 2010). That’s all I can say about that at this point.
Then, Parkland opened in theaters on October 11. It was emotional watching it as memories of two weeks of very emotionally-draining shooting in Austin, Texas last February came flooding back. It was definitely a joy to work alongside Academy Award Winner Marcia Gay Harden, Zac Efron, and Colin Hanks in that hospital O.R.
As for Planet Yogurt things are definitely looking up. As you all know, we won both major awards in the SCV this year: the Signal’s Blue Ribbon “Best Of 2013” and élite Magazine’s “2013 Ultimate Frozen Yogurt Award.”
And Planet Yogurt was nominated by the SCV Chamber of Commerce for Small Business of the Year and Family-Owned Business of the Year.
We were also nominated for “Business of the Year” by the Latino Chamber of Commerce!
And yet, there’s even better news: After 16 months of Planet Yogurt being flanked on both sides with vacant spaces we now have both spaces filled! The chic boutique H.E.R. on one side and the latest restaurant in the legendary global Japanese BBQ chain (800 restaurants world-wide), Gyu-Kaku, which will be open by the time you’re reading this. As one might imagine we’re expecting this to be a game-changer for us here at Planet Yogurt. For 16 months we’ve had no foot traffic at night and now we’ll have a worldwide proven restaurant concept right next door. We’re happy to say the least.
