Have you felt like taking a drive lately?  Do you enjoy exploring small towns or country roads?  If so, pack a bag, gas up the car and head on up the central coast to Paso Robles, California, one of the few cities left unspoiled. After visiting Paso for over twenty years we finally decided to stake our claim.  It’s where we want to spend our golden years.  As for now, we love to take our family and friends to Emily’s House, a vacation home, to stay for a few days and enjoy all the area has to offer.

Emily’s House is located just steps away from the center of town.  Paso Robles is home to some of California’s finest vineyards and tasting rooms, as well as gourmet restaurants and unique shopping.  Paso Robles is located just three hours north, off Highway 5, or four hours by way of Highway 101.  We suggest taking the quickest root so you can spend more time at your destination.  When you arrive, you can go to the Visitor’s Center.  The staff there is very helpful and there is lots of information.

We suggest spending your first day strolling old town Paso visiting the tasting rooms, shopping for antiques or unique gifts and finally having dinner at one of the finer restaurants.

After a goods nights rest at Emily’s House you can get up in the morning to the smell of fresh imported coffee brewing.  While sipping, you can plan your day trip to the central coast.

Highway 46 West offers beautiful views of rolling hills covered with vineyards and oak groves.  Occasionally you might see deer, wild pigs or turkey.  That’s another subject, because the area is also popular to the hunter.

Sometimes we don’t even make it as far as the beach because we have stopped so many times to visit the local wineries.  We like to order a box lunch from C&C Bakery to take along or we really enjoy choosing a cute place to eat along the shore.

Hearsts Castle is north and Shell Beach is south.  If wine tasting is your ultimate goal, you can charter transportation from one of the local companies such as the Wine Wrangler or the Grape Line.

There is so much to see and do, now you know what is right here in your own backyard, just a few hours away.

Emily’s House is our home away from home.  And we would love to share it with you.  Maybe someday you too will fall in love with beautiful Paso Robles.

Next month we’ll let you in on our favorite wine trails.
