The nights will begin to get longer, cool breezes drift though the air and the leaves will be orange soon, but you won’t find anyone inside. The impact of the outdoor room has become so strong it’s turning into the home’s most used room. Outdoor living has increased in popularity and has expanded way past the patio table and chairs of yester-year. We are now enjoying a resort-at-home trend with exterior plasma screen televisions and large movie screens, sofas and lounge chairs, chandeliers and full operational kitchens. Santa Clarita enjoys a warmer climate and with homeowners developing their home into weekend retreats we are finding the outdoor furniture manufacturers are developing lines that offer the same design quality found in indoor furniture.
The National Association of Homebuilders surveyed more than 500 architects, designers and manufacturers. They were asked what they expected to see in average and upscale homes by 2015. The response was 66 percent of those surveyed said an outdoor feature would be a significant element of the home. These new outdoor rooms include patio covers or enclosures, audio/TV equipment, outdoor lighting, outdoor fireplaces, and built-in patio heating. All signs seem to suggest homeowners are spending more time outside with family and friends doing just about everything they were doing inside the home; preparing full course meals, eating, relaxing and, of course, entertaining and playing games.
The outdoor room is all about getting people together in comfortable seating groups. Some outdoors furniture lines could easily be placed indoors because of the skilled design of each piece. So this moves us into the direction of interchangeable products.
The invitation for more plush fabrics has been extended and the manufacturer’s are up to the challenge. You’ve got the real estate, so why not enjoy all of it?
