There is no need to wonder where the wild things are, as they are coming to the Community Room of the Newhall Library from June 10 through July 11 in the form of the incredible wildlife art of a treasured local artist, Diane Bruckner.  The exhibit titled “Endangered and Endeared: a Retrospective of the Art of Diane Bruckner in Memoriam” will feature over 35 art works and is sponsored by the City of Santa Clarita and Sandy Fisher, former arts commissioner and local artist.  A public reception will be held on July 9 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The mastery of Bruckner, who won numerous awards during her lifetime for her depictions of endangered species using a variety of mediums, is evident in her ability to capture the essence and character of the animals through attention to detail.  John Dow, Arts Commissioner, stated, “Diane Bruckner was a multi-talented and beloved member of the Santa Clarita Arts Community. Her recent passing has been felt by us all.  Known for her realistic portrayals of animals, the upcoming retrospective, ‘Endangered and Endeared,’ is a stunning exhibit featuring wildlife that showcases Diane’s passion for animals and her desire to create awareness of species nearing extinction.  In this exhibit, Diane’s deep respect for wildlife shines through, creating a personal connection between the artist and the viewer.   I encourage everyone to come out and view this wonderful exhibit by this “endeared” local artist.  I know Diane would love it if you did.”
On February 1, 2014 Diane passed away from a tough battle with lung cancer. She was a long-standing, deeply respected and dearly loved member of the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association (SCAA), having held many positions, including Treasurer, Webmaster, Newsletter Editor and Art Classic Committee Member.  Always humble, she never boasted of her many awards nor did she try to garner praise. Instead, she would often be found working hard quietly behind the scenes.   To her fellow artists, she was generous with her professional advice and words of encouragement.
