Summer break is almost upon us – and its arrival leads many parents scrambling to fill up their days with engaging and fun activities for their children. Outdoor activities are always a key part of summer fun, but when the temperatures rise or the “June gloom” hits, consider filling the time with an afternoon of creative playtime.
Kids of all ages can create a simple scrapbook with just a few basic supplies.
You’ll need an album, printed photos, about a dozen sheets of solid color or patterned paper, double-sided adhesive (or a gluestick), markers, scissors and a few simple embellishments (such as stickers, ribbon or buttons).
You’ll want to print your photos in advance so that your child has plenty of options to choose from. The scrapbook could document activities from the school year, sports teams, trips and vacation memories, or even favorite family recipes – the possibilities for themes are endless. There are many local and online options for printing photos – our team is currently obsessed with Groove Book (which allows you to print up to 100 photos each month from your smartphone for only $2.99).
Once you’ve gathered all your supplies, it’s time to create. You’ll be amazed as you watch how creative your child can get. By focusing on an album, there is a built-in sense of accomplishment as each page is completed. These albums also make great gifts for grandparents and other loved ones.
