Roll out the red carpet, it has indeed been a month full of celebrities! Thank you, Santa Clarita, for all your celebrity sightings. It’s always so much fun to get your emails and read about your brush with fame. Stay tuned, as there are many more sightings to report.
Even though the 2013-2014 NBA season is officially over, former Los Angeles Laker Lamar Odom was recently seen at Lucille’s BBQ in Valencia. Lamar currently plays for the New York Knicks and has won two NBA championships as a member of the Lakers. His rookie year, he played for the Clippers and went on to play for the Miami Heat before coming back to Los Angeles. In 2014, he signed with the Knicks. Lamar was kind enough to take a photo with Santa Clarita resident Monique Grijalva.
Horse racing fans nearly missed seeing California Chrome take the Triple Crown as the thoroughbred came in fourth in the final race. And while the horse may be the celebrities of the Belmont Stakes, Kentucky Derby and Preakness, we must give credit where credit is due. Professional jockeys play a primary role while leading their horse to victory and Hall of Fame jockey Mike E. Smith is no stranger to being first at the finish line. In 2003, Mike was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame and less than a decade later, earned his 5,000th victory. Mike was seen in Santa Clarita and snapped a photo with racing fans and residents Ed Avey, Tom Cristi, Rudy Struyck and Gary Hambey.
