On Thursday, June 5, Single Mothers Outreach announced six new honorees for their 5th annual Empowering HeArts fundraiser that will take place in November, 2014.

The Empowering HeArts program honors local women who have made a difference in the community or overcome obstacles by pairing them with a local artist to create unique art pieces. This year’s theme is “Extraordinary,” and the nominees certainly live up to that title. The nominees include Kiki Hacker, a 30-year SCV resident who has partnered with, donated to, and volunteered for many local charities; Linda Hafizi, co-publisher of The Magazine of Santa Clarita and élite Magazine, publications that have helped support many non-profit organizations; Adele Macpherson, another 30-year resident who began work with the American Red Cross and has since progressed to work with many health foundations; Debbie Rio, a previous SMO board member who is now the Dean of Enrollment services at College of the Canyons; Kacey Surratt, a mother of five, who became an active member of SMO and is now a role model for her children; and Racquel “Rocky” Turner, a mother of six, who established Mothers Fighting for Others in 2006, an organization dedicated to providing orphans with opportunities.
Congratulations to all of this year’s nominees. We look forward to seeing the art pieces in November!
