Hart School District superintendent, Rob Challinor, announced his retirement effective February 1, 2015. Challinor has served as superintendent in the Hart District for the past five years and the previous four years as superintendent in the Muroc District. He has served in numerous education positions including teacher, assistant principal, junior high principal, high school principal, as well as assistant superintendent during a career that has spanned five decades.
While serving as the Hart District Superintendent, Challinor also served on the Governing Board of the SCV Boys and Girls Club, the SCVTV Board of Directors, and the City of Santa Clarita Redevelopment Oversight Committee.
The announcement, well in advance to the actual date of retirement, will allow the Governing Board time to determine the process for selecting Challinor’s successor. Previously the Hart Board employed an executive search firm to identify qualified candidates for the superintendency.
As superintendent of the Hart District, Challinor identified two key areas as significant accomplishments during his tenure, increased student achievement during the toughest financial times the State of California has ever experienced and the re-building of the district management team as the result of “Baby Boomer” retirements.
In retirement, Challinor plans to spend quality time with his family instead of his smart phone, travel, and play more golf. When asked why he is retiring at a relatively young age (59) he stated, “after 38 years of answering the bell at 5 a.m. or 5:30 a.m. and being on call 24/7 for the past 30 years, it’s time to relax.” Challinor went on to say, “Working as Superintendent in the Hart District has been a dream job, the district staff are incredibly talented and focused on student achievement both in the classroom and athletics and performing arts, the community is very supportive of the district, and the Governing Board is dedicated to serving the needs of our young people.”
