The master plan for art in Santa Clarita seems to be at a stand still. The mayor told me the city would be hiring a consultant to do the organizing for the master plan and the community would know when they should come down to City Hall to share ideas for what the master plan for art should include.
I read the Signal every day and have not seen any article notifying the residents of our community that a consultant has been hired and is inviting people to come to city hall and express their ideas… no article has been printed about this in the Signal to know when we should come to City Hall and talk with the consultant.
So… what is happening?
In the meantime I ask you, “why do artists create?” Creating art is a way to share human experiences and learn about who we are and the kind of environment we live in. The language of art expresses emotions, events, ideas and tells about events and people. When we learned to read and write we learned the language of words and speech to know how to communicate our feelings and thoughts. Art activities which enhance skills and provide nonverbal ways for self-expression are the advantages of having an art center in Santa Clarita. It is important that an art center gets created and gives the community a place to have art experiences in visual art exhibits, professional art lectures, art classes for children and adults, dance and theatre studio production space. Art demonstrations, an art library for reading and viewing… all available seven days a week. The city officials need to go forth with the master plan for art now and tell community residents when this will happen.
Anyone who wishes to see an art center created let me know. My phone number is 661-255-3050. Jaylene Armstrong, is a retired art educator from Madison, Wisconsin.
