Well, not quite, but as close as humanly possible… on January 14, the Emmy Award-winning voice of young Bart, from the long-running hit series The Simpsons, Nancy Cartwright, hit the track at L.A. Racing Experience to prepare for her NASCAR Racing License. No stranger to the L.A. Racing Experience (LARX) at Irwindale Speedway, Cartwright returned to the school and sat among a group of 17 other students receiving race instructions from Frank Alvis, LARX Crew, chief and race coordinator.
The other students in the room were there for high-energy recreational drives in 450 hp NASCAR stock cars for 10 or 20 lap adventures. They were pleasantly surprised to find out they had the opportunity to drive with a real Hollywood celebrity. However, Cartwright wasn’t there for 10 or 20 laps, she was going through the rigorous Competition Course provided by LARX that is a prerequisite for completing her race training for her NASCAR license.
“I knew racecar drivers were good, but I had no idea until last Sunday the physical and mental conditioning one must endure to compete each weekend,” said Cartwright.
Jim Cohan, a Santa Clarita resident, owns LARX and many of his staff members are SCV residents, as well.
“Our driving school is the most unique in the country,” says Cohan. We’re just minutes from Hollywood, so it’s an easy drive for celebrities and race fans to come out and feel the speed of the high-banked oval in a real racecar. We’ve had a lot of Santa Clarita residents who have had great experiences at the school and it’s so much closer than the bigger speedway.”
