Zonta Club’s Lunafest filming March 5 Review – Eight films directed by women, two from California, were selected for the series this year; a favorite, TRYOUTS by Susana Casares of Los Angeles, is about a teenager, Nayla, a Muslim American girl who must keep her hair covered when in public, who wants to join her high school’s cheerleading squad and shaves her hair off to meet the squad’s uncovered head requirement tugged at the hearts of the audience.
LADY PARTS by Emily Fraser and Katherine Gorringe of Palo Alto was well received; it was about Lady Parts Automotive which brings a woman’s touch and very different approach to an industry dominated by men. There were new attendees this year who were interested in what the films would provide, and they were very pleased with the messages presented; many who had attended previous screenings exclaimed, “This is so interesting and so much fun – I look forward to the event each year.”
