As the 2015 school year comes to an end, we turn out attention to a spectacular event at Vincenzo’s Pizza in Saugus. For 17 years now, the Saugus Jazz band has been entertaining audiences at Vincenzo’s with their monthly Jazz Night performances.
Over the years the band has featured a vast variety of musical repertoire. The monthly performances have included guest artists of every kind. This month will be no exception featuring Gary Freedman on Guitar and Dobro. For our last Jazz Night performance of the year on May 13 will feature the musical stylings of professional Jazz pianist Otmaro Ruiz, a Grammy award winning artist from Caracas, Venezuela. He began playing the piano as well as classical guitar at the age of eight. He moved to Los Angeles at 26 years old and earned his Master’s Degree in Jazz Performance from Cal Arts. In 2001 he played with Dianna Reeves on a CD called “In the Moment – Live in Concert” which won a Grammy.
