When the rain started falling on Shirley and Howard Tanner’s anniversary party, they could have canceled, cried, or both; but instead, they brought 125 guests inside and made the most of it. After 50 years of marriage, they weren’t going to let a little rain ruin their parade!
The Howards celebrated their anniversary with their closest friends at their home in Sand Canyon on July 18. They had originally planned to celebrate Shirley’s father’s 100th birthday, as well, but he passed in June. “His doctor,” Shirley recalled, “said to me: ‘Well, you know, your dad was in the womb for 9 months – so he really did make it to 100!’”
Councilman Bob Kellar and his wife Kathy attended to present the Tanners with a certificate, recognizing their anniversary, on behalf of the Santa Clarita City Council. Cindy Smith of RSVP Catering and Events provided food, and Pramik Entertainment and Events provided entertainment. Jordan and Jolene Tanner performed a salsa dance. The Tanners have four children – Todd Tanner, Laura Tanner, Jim Tanner and Tina Bauer – and six grandchildren. “It was unforgettable,” Shirley said with a laugh.
