As the 2015/2016 school year approaches, students and families across town are scrambling to squeeze in the last bits of fun before school begins.  However, many of the learners from SCVi, iLEAD’s founding school, feel a bit differently about being away from their campus.

When the year ended in June, learners reluctantly crossed the parking lot towards their cars recapping memories and already anticipating the next grade level’s adventures.  They knew they would be returning back to a place of constant self-discovery; a place for personalized learning.
Scvi embodies the old adage that learning presents itself everywhere and all the time.  Project based learning is their pedagogical philosophy and vehicle to developing the whole child both academically and social emotionally.  Fun does not just occur outside during recess, but rather fun is happening naturally through hands on real world projects.  When things are fun, people are not only more engaged, but also have higher brain function, more physical benefits and higher success rates.
At SCVi, learners invent, create, explore, converse, analyze, collaborate and at times even design their own projects.  Instead of reading about people of the world, learners simulate the lives of scientists, architects, engineers, writers, producers, artists and leaders.  Twenty-first century skills are embodied throughout the culture of the school.   Their facilitators (credential teachers) are skilled at inspiring young people to take their own learning and unravel their potential through personal strengths.
SCVi learners, use Steven Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People and Seven Habits of Happy Kids as guideposts to social emotional development and building a life long love for learning.  These habits are integrated into everyday culture such as habit number three: (Put first things first) or habit number five (seek first to understand and then be understood).  Summer vacation is the perfect time to practice habit number seven: (sharpening the saw).  This is the time they encourage their learners and staff to take time and rest and rejuvenate the heart, the mind and the body… even if they can’t wait to get back to school.
SCVi will host a tour and open house for those interested in learning more on July 28th at 6 p.m.  If you need another date to tour please call 800-925-1502 or go to www.ileadschools.org and learn more.
