Next time you visit our office, we’ll be checking for potential cavities not only with a probe, but also with a ray of fluorescent light.
Specifically, we’ll be using state-of-the-art optical technology: the KaVo DIAGNOdent Laser Fluorescence Caries Detection Instrument. We’re pleased to be the first office in our area to offer you this early, accurate, comfortable high-tech diagnostics technique.
It used to be that all we had to use to check for cavities were silver probes. This technique allowed us to search for defects in the enamel, but we couldn’t check for problems we couldn’t feel. We want to find and treat cavities at the earliest possible instant, before they’re even visible to the naked eye.
The result of years of research by clinicians in three countries, DIAGNOdent measures laser fluorescence within a tooth. When we flash the laser at a healthy tooth there’s little or no reflected fluorescence. The more wearing away of the enamel there is, the more reflection we begin to see. It’s that simple and that painless.
And since the instrument gives us a sound signal of the degree of reflection, we’ll know immediately if there’s a problem area. The DIAGNOdent lets us pay less attention to the instrument and more attention to your comfort.
