This month I thought that it would be fun to clear up some misinformation or “urban myths” in the skincare department.

1. The first one I need to tell you is that chocolate does not cause acne.  Yes, if you do eat too much (especially the cheap chocolate), it will cause a lumpy, itchy rash that looks like acne, but is not.  The lesson here is to eat expensive chocolate.

2. The ingredient Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is an irritant, not a carcinogen.

3. Performing facial exercises may in fact worsen deep facial expression wrinkle lines.  Fine lines are due to a loss of collagen which is completely unrelated to muscle.  Thickening the muscles of expression like frown lines, for instance, worsens the deeper wrinkles, that’s why we use Botox, to relax the muscle.

4. Be very careful with the latest craze of dryer sheets for multi-purpose uses, especially when it comes to placing them in animal beds and rubbing them on your skin and in your hair to prevent static.  I have seen rashes appearing on clients like you can’t believe and your animal’s noses and skin are far too sensitive for these waxes, oils and raw chemicals.

5. Sleeping on a satin pillow case helps to prevent wrinkles.  Well, this one is actually true!  I couldn’t end the article on a bad note.  So the tip of the month is go out and buy yourself a nice satin pillow case and rest assured that you are truly going to wake-up looking younger!
