With the opening of SCV Cleaners, Albert Naber is returning to his roots. The Santa Clarita resident was trained as a tailor and earned his degree in Rome, but for 25 years he has spent more time with cars than clothes. Together with his wife Antoinette, Albert turned Canyon Country’s Water Wheel Car Wash into a neighborhood institution.
The couple’s son Alex, who graduated from Loyola Marymount University, joined the family business, enabling the Nabers to open their two cleaning shops. They opened the first SCV Cleaners last year on Wayne Mills Place near Magic Mountain Parkway and Tourney Road. Their newest location in Centre Pointe debuted this month and will celebrate its Grand Opening March 6.
“He went back to his passion,” Antoinette says of Albert’s desire to launch SCV Cleaners. And that’s what makes the business unique.
“It’s not like any other cleaner in the area,” Albert explains as he outlines his plans to offer full-service tailoring. Those needing substantial alterations to a suit, or other specialty work, will appreciate Albert’s touch. “If it’s done right, you won’t notice it’s been tailored,” he said.
Outstanding service has been a trademark for the Nabers, as customers of their car wash know. “I have no more customers (there),” Albert says. “Ninety-five percent are friends.”
And when friends need help, the Nabers are quick to respond. Last year they sponsored more than 30 fundraisers at the car wash, allowing community groups to sell car wash coupons and keep the bulk of the proceeds.
“We do it because we want to do it,” Albert says.
Which brings them back to their new cleaning business. The grand opening is not just a celebration of a new venture. It is the Nabers’ way of saying thank you to Santa Clarita and all the friends they have made over the years. To do that, they are offering the first 100 visitors to the Grand Opening 20 percent off their dry cleaning for life.
“The community kept us in business for 25 years and we appreciate that,” Antoinette says.
SCV Cleaners will host its grand opening celebration March 6 at 5:30 p.m. at 26547 Golden Valley Road in Centre Pointe. For more information, call 661-255-3678.
