Zonta honors women in service!  The Zonta Club of Santa Clarita will host its celebration of outstanding women volunteers in Santa Clarita on Saturday, April 5th.  The brunch event will be held at Valencia Country Club with registration at 9:30 a.m. followed by brunch and the program begins at 10 a.m.  Non-profit volunteer organizations in the Santa Clarita Valley have nominated one of their own to be honored.  One of the outstanding volunteers will receive the Carmen Sarro Volunteer of the Year Award.  Michelle Armstrong will be the featured speaker, discussing her recently published book, Manage Your Mind, Master Your Life – How To Accelerate Your Success In Life And Business.  Tickets are $30 and reservations can be made online at www.scvzonta.org/events.  Join us for an outstanding event!

April 19th the  Healthy Kids Club will be enjoying a solar cook-out at Placerita Canyon and they will be joined by Girl Scouts from the Joshua Tree Council.  The girls will prepare a meal that will cook only through solar power and take a nature hike while it cooks.  Healthy Kids Club is a mentoring program for middle school girls developed by  Zonta in 1993 and has been successful in exposing the girls to the arts, health issues and educational opportunities.

Zonta’s 3rd Annual Golf Tournament takes place at Robinson Ranch on May 19, 2008.   Local law firm Mehta & Mann is the title sponsor.  Michele Mann will again be riding the course to cheer on the golf teams.  Visit www.scvzonta.org/event for more information and to register online.  All proceeds benefit the Zonta Club of SCV Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, founded to improve the status of women in the Santa Clarita Valley and internationally.  Proceeds from the event will help fund Zonta’s service projects.

The projects include Healthy Women’s Day, an annual free breast cancer screening for uninsured and underinsured women, Healthy Kids Club mentioned above and the Virginia Wrage Grants for women in career transitions who must re-enter the workforce.  Zonta offers scholarships and community grants to local organizations.  The Club meets the second Wednesday evening of each month at The Hilton Garden Inn, with a no host happy half-hour at 6 p.m. and a dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m.  Please join us if you would like to learn more about Zonta.
