People always say to me, Randy why do you do comedy? I tell them, “I do comedy, because the thrill of making people laugh is the second greatest thrill known to man. The first of course is making love. I happen to be able to experience both these thrills simultaneously.”
Everyone reading this right now, has at least one time in their life said something that made people laugh. I guarantee, that even if it was only once, it felt good. People say the most attractive quality in a person, is their sense of humor.
In the past several weeks, a lot of people have asked me if I would offer a class in stand-up comedy. Let me say first, that I don’t think anyone can teach you to be a comedian. I believe it is a gift that you already have. Someone can help you nourish and identify the gift, but you have to have the gift in order to become a professional comedian. With that said, I do believe that a work-shop in Stand up comedy can be beneficial to most anyone who would like to improve their self confidence and public speaking.
I also believe there are a lot of folks who would love to try their hand at stand-up, just for fun. So, I am announcing a six-week stand-up comedy workshop. It will end with a live showcase of all the students at J.R.’s comedy club in front of a live audience.
The course will cover microphone technique, creating a comedy character, the art of writing a joke, and an over view of the comedy business. It will give each participant a chance to develop a five-minute routine and get on stage with it.
The cost of the workshop will be $350 and we will need at least eight people to sign up in order to make it worthwhile. If you are interested on trying stand-up seriously, or just for fun, give me a call and enroll. I promise we will have a lot of fun.
As a bonus, I will make sure that everyone who signs up will be able to tell at least one good joke for any public speaking occasion, whether it be a toast, a sales presentation, at a party, or on the golf course.
