The Power of Play Approach uses humor and creativity to discover new possibilities for challenging situations.  This is a creative challenge which is becoming a new field called “Applied Improvisation.” It is an easy and effective way to reduce the stress and chaos of cancer.  The weSPARK guests who participate in the Power of Play have discovered that being in a room where optimism, laughter and creativity stimulate the feel-good hormones in your body is a wonderful gift.

After observing so many people dealing with cancer, we notice that cancer often throws people into a tornado of overwhelming emotion.  Sometimes, the first casualty is the loss of self.  Where is that familiar person who looked back at you from the mirror every morning? Not only is your physical appearance changing, but something deep within can feel lost to a fog of information, procedures, technology, office visits, advice, insurance claims and new emotions.

Participants of the Power of Play workshops report that the biggest gift they receive is the return to self.  It is recovering that sense of humor, creativity and engagement in life that sometimes gets lost during treatment.  It is like coming home after feeling adrift at sea.  Returning to self is the biggest gift to your self that you can give.

After a cancer diagnosis, we know that the return is never simply “back to the way it was before.”  It is always returning with new insight and wisdom.  The facilitators of Power of Play, Rahla Kahn and Richard Rossner, are coming to weSPARK in Santa Clarita with a great passion and appreciation for their work and for each guest.  The laughter and humor you will experience during the Power of Play Workshop on Thursdays April 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th at 1pm will reconnect you with the best and most creative parts of your self.  You have nothing to lose but the blues!
