A Battle for a Seat in Senate
There’s a battle brewing in the Santa Clarita Valley! Republican Tony Strickland officially announced his candidacy for the state Senate last month, and Democrats and Republicans are at it. Strickland needs to win the seat to prevent the Democratic supermajority in the Senate. Apparently, he’ s targeting the “swing seat” in the 19th Senate District, which includes portions of the Santa Clarita Valley, as well as Thousand Oaks, Ventura and Santa Barbara. The seat is currently held by Republican Senator Tom McClintock.
A Day Off
Thought of taking a day off? Though Good Friday, on March 21, was not considered an official holiday, absent students from the William S. Hart Union High School District were not penalized for missing school that day. Absentees were able to make up any work and teachers were advised not to overwhelm the day with many exams.
No More Reruns
The Santa Clarita film industry is back! Hollywood writers can now return to work and Santa Clarita’s film industry can carry on. Some television shows that are filmed in Santa Clarita include “The Riches,” “Big Love” and “The Unit.” Drivers on Soledad Canyon Road may have noticed movie trailers parked along Golden Valley Road. The trailers were all part of the filming of the family comedy, “Super Capers.”
And the winner is….
Denis Watson won the AT&T Champions Classic tournament held at the Valencia Country Club. The tournament, part of the PGA tour, is for players 50 and older and winners split a 1.6 million dollar purse. Watson ended with a final score of 209 and seven under par for the tourney’s three rounds. Watson’s winning totaled $240,000!
Nature Preserved
City officials joined developers in Golden Valley Ranch to expand the city’s greenbelt by more than 900 acres. This is the largest expanse of open space in the City’s 20-year history. The area will be preserved in its natural state and hiking trails will be under the care of the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority.
